Homestead- Your Partner in Family Led Homeschooling

Homestead was designed to be a helpful resource for families who wish to develop and deliver their child's education at home. It is a free, family-led homeschooling program through Ventura Unified School District. Enrollment is open to students in Grades K-8 in Ventura County. Families work with a credentialed teacher to develop an individualized program for their child.  There are various vehicles for the delivery of education, including online resources, pen and paper and everything in between, all led by adults in the home.  The program is housed out of Lemon Grove K-8 School and includes opportunities for in-person engagement for students and teachers (during non-COVID times).

Homestead is an exciting alternative educational experience. For more information visit the Homestead website. To discuss or enroll contact Anne Bemel, Lead Teacher at 805-289-1817 x 2122 or the office at 805-289-1817

TK-8 Schools Enrollment for 2022-2023

The Ventura Unified School District is pleased to currently offer two K-8 Schools.  Sunset School (K-8) in Oak View, CA, has been serving many students on the west end of Ventura and in Oak View for years. Lemon Grove School (TK-8), located in mid-town opened in the Fall of 2021.  On the east end of Ventura, ATLAS Elementary School will expand to become a K-6 school in the Fall of 2022.

We are currently pre-enrolling for all three schools for the Fall 2022 term. Here are the various ways to enroll for TK-5:

  • If you are new to VUSD or a returning “inactive” student AND you live in the school boundary area for Sunset or Lemon Grove (currently Blanche Reynolds), you may apply to both using our online enrollment application. Families should contact the school directly after applying online to ensure the school site received their online enrollment information.
  • If you are new to VUSD or a returning “inactive” student AND you live outside the VUSD boundary for Sunset or Lemon Grove (whichever you are choosing) but still within the VUSD boundary area for the District, you must contact your current boundary school to request an intradistrict transfer application so you may be released from your current boundary school.
  • If you live outside of the VUSD district boundary area, you must first contact your current district to be released, and then you may apply for an interdistrict transfer.  Once the paperwork is complete, we recommend contacting the school to ensure they have received your information.
