Wellness Policy
It is an exciting time to be involved in the series of local, state, and federal initiatives related to healthy eating and active living to reduce obesity in children. From Michelle Obama's "Let's Move" campaign; State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson's "Team California for Healthy Kids Initiative"; Ventura County Public Health's "Community Transformation Initiative"; Kaiser Permanente HEAL Zone grant; to Ventura's Tobacco Use Prevention and Education grant, everyone is focused and involved in making Ventura County "the Healthiest County in California."
I would like to invite you or a representative from your organization to join the Ventura USD Wellness Collaborative. The Ventura USD Wellness Collaborative is a subcommittee of the larger Healthy & Green Schools partnership that has been actively working to bring about changes to our environmental policies and programs. Prior to the 2011-12 school year, the Ventura USD Wellness Collaborative was known as the Coordinated School Health Council and then as the Healthy, Safe, and Supportive Schools Collaborative (HS3C). This committee has been actively supporting wellness, health, physical activity, and nutrition related programs and policies.
The role of the Ventura USD Wellness Collaborative is to support healthy, safe, and supportive schools programs, activities, and events; to assist schools in achieving a "culture" of wellness; to serve as an advisory committee to the superintendent and governing board and to serve as an advisory board to local, state, and federal grants. The primary policy that drives our decisions is the Wellness Policy and Administrative Regulations."
