Congrats to Battle of the Books

The Sunset Battle team competed in the 2019 Battle of the Books competition that was held at Cabrillo Middle School this year. Students read 20 novels during the year and competed on their knowledge of the texts. Sunset had team members on the top four finishing squads, and Isabella Coleman brought home the trophy!

Congratulations to Marlen Olea Lazaro!

The Rotary Club of Ojai honored Marlen as the Physical Education Project (PEP) student of the month. Marlen is a bright and dedicated student. In addition to always excelling academically, she is a member of our student council and exemplifies what it means to be a leader. She is always helping the younger students on our campus. Whether she is consoling a fourth grader or sitting with a kindergartner as they wait for the bus, her empathy is palpable. She is also on the Cross Country team for the third year in a row. She is one of only two females on the team and shows courage and diligence as she trains with her male teammates. Her calm nature, high intellect and dedication make her the perfect recipient for the PEP Rotary Award.

Congratulations to Jay Melendez!

The Ventura Optimist recognized Jay as student of the month! Jay is an integral part of our Sunset family. He is outgoing and friendly and his silly nature is infectious. He is honest with his friends, teachers, and staff members and especially himself! He is also kind. He knows that he can tell the truth and still consider everyone's feelings around him. Jay is extremely hardworking and applies himself to any task that is assigned to him. He exudes inner confidence and has a strong moral compass.

Congratulations to Sunset 5th grader Isabella Coleman!
Isabella was selected as the city of Ventura's Mayor for a Moment and was given the key to the city! Bella was honored at the VUSD board meeting. We are so proud of you Bella!
