A message from the Principal

Welcome to our website!  We hope you will find this site helpful to learn about our school community and all of the upcoming events we have planned for our students!

It is an absolute privilege to serve as the Sunset School principal!  I attended Sunset School as a child and feel very connected to our community. Prior to serving at Sunset School, I was the principal of El Camino High School at Ventura College for 8 years and the assistant principal at DeAnza Middle School for two years. I also enjoyed being an enthusiastic classroom teacher of middle school Language Arts and Social Studies.  I enjoy coaching youth sports in the Ojai Valley, and you are likely to see me on a field or court in town!  My door is always open to parents and community members who want to learn more about our school, have comments or suggestions, or who want to learn how they can be active at Sunset.

Our entire staff is dedicated to making sure that every student can thrive in a rigorous academic environment that is also full of student activities and experiential learning opportunities, including music and the arts.  Additionally, it is our priority to create and maintain our positive school culture and climate.  Sunset is a school where students are valued, they are known by name and they are encouraged and made to feel important every day! Sunset students want to be at school and they want to learn…. Because they know it is fun! The Sunset staff works very hard to ensure a safe and engaging campus.  Academic awards and incentives are celebrated daily, and we make a habit of catching students being “Learners and Leaders.”

We are very excited about our huge academic gains! Our daily Universal Access program allows teachers to provide small-group instruction to students at their level.  Students who need extra help receive i,t and students who are ready to accelerate are encouraged and motivated.  Our Middle School program is exceptional and unique in our local area.  Our 6th through 8th graders thrive academically and learn invaluable leadership skills by being mentors on our campus.  The learning environment in our middle school program allows us to send very prepared students into high school!

If you have any questions about our school, or would like to come and tour our campus, please feel free to contact our office to set up an appointment.

                                                       Sincerely,

                                                       Kelsie Sims, Principal
