2015 Fifth Grade Overnight Trip!

posted on

On March 2nd 2015, the Will Rogers fifth graders headed to the Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific for their exciting overnight field trip! Students got to tour the entire aquarium with their chaperones before the aquarium closed to the public. Once closed, our students got the Aquarium to themselves for the rest of the evening! The students got to interview an Aquarium scuba diver, and Aquarium staff led the students through hands on activities and a behind-the-scenes tour of the aquarium. After dark, students were treated to a special 3D movie about Penguins, and also battled in a boys vs. girls trivia game all about sharks. Then it was time for bed, which meant sleeping next to the fish, otters, turtles, and sharks on the floors of the Northern Pacific and Tropical exhibits!

Students were up early the next morning for a quick breakfast before heading into Los Angeles for Part II of the trip - the California Science Center. Students got to tour the science center in supervised small groups, and also had special tickets to see the Endeavor Spaceship! The science center also led the fifth graders through two hands-on experiments in their "Big Lab." Some of the students got to model erosion and how humans build dams, while the other group got to design and test roller coasters. All students were treated to a special IMAX 3D movie about the Hubble telescope. It was a fantastic, science-filled and fun trip!
