In the Fall of 2013, Will Rogers was awarded a Magnet Schools Assistance Program (MSAP) grant to become a Magnet School of Environmental Science. The grant funding period began in October 2013, and will continue through October 2016. During this time the grant will provide funding for:
- Further development of our Schoolyard Habitat, Orchard, and Ocean-Friendly Garden
- A brand new Science Lab ~ opened October 2014!
- Science Equipment
- Environmental Science Curriculum aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards andCommon Core, in both English and Spanish
- Teacher iPads
- Student iPads: at least 12 per classroom
- A Science Theme Teacher
- An MSAP Intervention Teacher
- Professional Development for Teachers
During this time we are also committed to achieving the following five MSAP grant goals:
- To reduce Hispanic isolation by attracting racially and ethnically diverse families
- To promote positive interactions among racially and ethnically diverse students
- To demonstrate achievement of high academic standards in Language Arts, Mathematics, Environmental Science, and the use of Technology
- To increase parent involvement and participation in their children’s education
- To provide quality professional development for our staff
