Last Thursday the 4th and 5th graders in the after school LEGO club finished their "Construction Site" engineering and coding LEGO projects. The students met with class teacher Ms. Moraga for 5 weeks after school to build tower cranes, forklifts, and drawbridges out of LEGOs, and then program them using basic coding skills to operate on motion and tilt sensors. On the last day of the class the students shared their projects by creating iMovies, featured below. It was a fun learning experience for everyone!
Student Created LEGO Club iMovies

Will Rogers LEGO Club Winter 2016 - Jade by Jade Reilly, 4th grade
Will Rogers LEGO Club Winter 2016 - Chris, Parker, and Merrick by fourth graders Christopher Cain, Parker Shimer, and Merrick Giles

This Winter Session of LEGO followed our debut session in Fall of 2015. In the Fall students built Amusement Park-themed structures, and this Winter students built Construction Site-themed structures. In total, 37 fourth and fifth grade students have benefited from the program this year, established and funded by our Magnet Schools grant. The Winter session had a waiting list, and due to its popularity, we may host a third round of LEGO club this Spring, so look for upcoming announcements in March!
