Welcome to Human Resources

The Human Resources Department partners with various District departments, school administrators and employee union groups to recruit, select, develop and manage a highly skilled and diverse workforce in support of educational services and student achievement.

The District currently employs approximately 1,300 certificated personnel and 850 classified personnel. We are always seeking creative, dynamic and hard-working individuals to join our team in our quest to provide excellent educational services to the Ventura student and parent community.

  • Certificated Employment encompasses positions that require an appropriate authorization such as a credential, permit, certificate or waiver depending on the assignment (e.g. teacher, counselor, speech therapist, psychologist or school administrator).
  • Classified Employment encompasses positions such as: clerical/secretarial, custodial/grounds, maintenance, child nutrition, accounting/fiscal, instructional support/child care, child development teachers, and information/data processing.

What Makes VUSD a Great Place to Work

Ventura has long enjoyed a legacy as an outstanding place to live, work, and raise a family. Our public schools, too, have built a reputation as safe and nurturing environments where students receive a well-rounded education. As our students’ needs have evolved, Ventura Unified School District has strived to stay ahead of the curve—offering rich and varied academic programming, remaining committed to the arts across the district, and ensuring our schools are healthy, green, and connected to the coast and our community. All of these initiatives are pointed toward a common goal: maintaining excellent schools and learning environments where all children can explore, grow, and thrive as students in a modern world and be well prepared for the future ahead of them.

The Ventura Unified School District is an equal opportunity employer. The District fosters a culture of fair and equitable practices in all of its activities, policies, programs and procedures to provide all individuals regardless of age, color, race, ethnic group identification, national origin, religion, disability, sex, gender, sexual orientation or marital status equal access to jobs and promotional opportunities.

Additionally, the District operates under the provisions of the Merit System of the California Education Code in the administration of classified employment. Such a system is adopted in approximately 100 school districts in the State of California, and revolves on the principle of an open and competitive process (i.e. based on ability and performance) in recruitment, selection and promotion of employees.

The District offers great health and welfare and retirement (STRS/PERS) benefits to its permanent employees. Please visit the Risk Management/Benefits division of the Business Services Department for more information on employment benefits.
