Why Ventura High School?
Ventura High School, a comprehensive secondary school offering grades 9-12 and located in Ventura, California, was founded in 1889 and is a California Distinguished School currently serving approximately 2,100 students. Ventura High School is part of the Ventura Unified School District with accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). Whether it be through rigorous academic courses, competitive athletic programs, rich fine arts and music instruction, a model Two-Way Immersion program, or inspirational community service projects, Ventura High School strives to provide every student a holistic and cutting-edge 21st century education that prepares students for local and global college and career opportunities. We promotes 10 year plans for all students, which are created and refined in the required College and Career Freshman Seminar class. Counselors use these plans to inform and guide counseling sessions so that the sessions are student-specific and goal-oriented. Our English classes are either college prep, honors, or Advanced Placement and are all UC a-g approved. Our AVID program (Advancement Via Individual Determination) has expanded to include six full sections, serving nearly 200 students who will be the first in their family to attend college. We field over 50 highly competitive and league-winning athletic teams supported by an enthusiastic student body and community booster groups. Our visual and performing arts programs are exceptional, annually qualifying many students with 3 or better on AP Art Portfolio tests. Our drama and music departments continue to dazzle and inspire and regularly compete – and win – competitions. With so much happening on the Ventura High School campus the question should not be “Why Ventura High School?” but “Why not Ventura High School?”
