How to Object to Statewide Student Data Release

A recent lawsuit against the California Department of Education (CDE) is impacting all public schools across the state, including those operated by the Ventura Unified School District.

In April 2012, two organizations, the Morgan Hill Concerned Parents Association and the Concerned Parent Association, filed a lawsuit against CDE regarding compliance with special education laws. As a part of this lawsuit, the United States District Court ordered CDE to release all data it has collected on general and special education students statewide since Jan. 1, 2008 to attorneys for the plaintiffs in the lawsuit. No data is being released to the public and extensive precautions are in place to keep the data secure. Additionally, the parties are required to either return or destroy the data at the conclusion of the lawsuit.

VUSD schools were not involved in the lawsuit and are not the subject of any of the suit's allegations. VUSD will not be disclosing any student data.

Parents and guardians who want to object to CDE's release of their child’s data to the plaintiffs' attorneys may do so by submitting a form by mail prior to April 1, 2016. Links to the form and additional information about this case are on the district and individual school web sites.

Pierpont PTA

The Pierpont PTA has several goals, but our #1 goal is to enhance the educational experience of the children of Pierpont Elementary School. We do this through fundraising and support for ongoing and special programs, as well as improving the quality of materials used on campus. Some of the funds raised go towards things such as after school enrichment programs, fine arts and historical assemblies, field trips, leadership awards, the school carnival and the talent show. The other portion of the funds goes towards tangible items such as computers, furniture, and playground equipment.

The PTA is an encourager of an enriched social and educational experience. We try to assist the teachers, principal and staff with their quest for academic excellence at our school. We do not see our role as directing the staff in any way, but in encouraging them to use whatever resources we can provide, and to pursue knowledge and experiences of their own to share with the children.

We feel that parents, together with teachers and staff, can and do "make a difference" at Pierpont.

Please visit the Pierpont PTA  web site for more information.

Peachjar Digital Flyer Board

Exciting news! In an effort to provide increased access to programs and resources that improve the trajectory of our students’ lives, VUSD is preparing to launch Peachjar on January 4, 2021. This new platform will enable us to send important community flyers to families digitally, saving our schools time, money, and paper. We will occasionally upload our district and school flyers there as well but will continue to use ParentSquare for those purposes.
