HOW DO PARENTS COMMUNICATE WITH STAFF AT CABRILLO?

Once your child is in middle school, it is difficult to know how to get the answers to the many questions that you might have. Here is a communication guide available to you at Cabrillo.

Newsletter: The first newsletter is mailed home in August. It is a wealth of information! Many parents read the newsletter with a highlighter in hand as they mark the many dates and activities that pertain to their family.

Web Site: The Cabrillo web site is located at services.venturausd.org/cabrillo/home.aspx. It contains so much information about Cabrillo as well as copies of our newsletters, bulletins, calendar of events, and examples of student work in computers. You will become very well-informed by visiting our web site.

Student Planner: Every student is given a planner provided by the PTO and ASB. The cost of each planner is almost $5.00. The first pages are a handbook containing the school rules and procedures. Like an adult planner, this organization tool gives your child a place to record assignments, homework, and important events.

Teacher Syllabus: At Back-to-School Night, most teachers will distribute a syllabus to parents detailing class curriculum, standards, and grading systems. These syllabi offer pertinent information about the classes in which your child is enrolled Telephone: Our number is 641-5155. Office staff will either answer your question or send you to someone who can. Our clerical staff is extremely knowledgeable, our counselors are very helpful, and our administrators are here to solve problems.

Voice Mail: Every staff member has telephone voice mail. Call the school and use the name directory to go directly to someone’s voice mail. If you have questions regarding your child’s grades, progress or report cards, or assignments, call the teacher. He/she is the only person who can answer those questions.

E-mail: Everyone on staff has e-mail. In most cases, it is the person’s first name followed by a dot, and their last name, followed by “@venturausd.org.”

Parent Connect: For those of you with internet access, Parent Connect is a great way to keep track of your child’s progress. It is an on-line grade book that allows you to see your child’s grades and assignments (more teachers use the Q-SIS Grade Book) you will have access to immediate information about your child’s grades. Class news can give information about current work as it is assigned. Click here for a tutorial.

Parent Square: This phone system allows me to call every Cabrillo family iquickly If we have an emergency at school, we will be able to keep families informed almost immediately. From time to time, the school will send out a message to families. We try not to call too often but do want to keep you informed regarding letters sent home and upcoming events.
