Balboa Breakfast Awards
Each month from October through April, Balboa teachers and staff participate in the Breakfast Awards, an early morning gathering in the library of about 15 students, their teachers, and families. Teachers nominate students who make a positive impression through their contributions in class and their positive attitudes at school. A week before the awards, our Assistant Principal, Mrs. Deanna Baczek, makes calls to the homes of the honored students and invites each family to the event. The honored students are often the ones who quietly go about doing the right things every day. Listening to the teachers share their thoughts and observations about the kids reminds remind all of us just how wonderful Balboa students are.
Through this kind of recognition, student assets are built and students feel more connected to school. Research has shown the importance of building assets through the recognition of academic effort and personal character traits.
